The service

What it is, who it's for, and when you need it.

What it is

Supply and install of hardwired video doorbells from Ring, Nest, Eufy, Reolink and other major brands. Includes fitting a doorbell transformer where none exists, running low-voltage cable, connecting the indoor chime, phone-app pairing and set-up.

Who it's for

Anyone tired of charging a battery doorbell, homeowners fitting a smart doorbell for the first time, landlords adding one to a rental, and existing Ring users upgrading to a hardwired model.

When you need it

Straight away, a proper hardwire install takes an hour or two and pays back forever in stopped battery charges and missed events.

Why professional install matters

Battery doorbells are convenient but flawed: batteries die in cold weather, motion detection lags to save power, and you inevitably miss the one delivery you were expecting. A hardwired install is set-and-forget.
Left too long

A small fault today is a bigger bill tomorrow.

Battery doorbells have a habit of failing at the worst moment, a courier at the door, a Christmas delivery, a visit from someone important. Two years in, most owners have stopped charging the battery altogether and the doorbell has become a very expensive plastic ornament.

What ignoring it can cost you

  • Missed deliveries because the battery died overnight
  • Motion events triggered a moment too late, you catch the back of someone's head, not their face
  • Screwed to a UPVC frame with the wrong fixings and pulled straight off when it froze
  • Existing wired chime bypassed because the installer didn't know how, inside is silent forever
  • Poor Wi-Fi at the front door, half of events never upload

Common DIY mistakes we get called back to fix

  • Skipping the transformer, a Ring wired into a doorbell circuit with no transformer just doesn't work
  • Using plastic bell wire outdoors, brittle and cracked inside 12 months
  • Not enabling 'pre-roll' where the doorbell supports it, you miss the seconds before the event
  • Setting motion zones too wide, 200 alerts a day for passing cars, you stop reading them
  • Wi-Fi at the door too weak to upload HD video reliably, clips get compressed to postage-stamp quality
Our process

A clear five-step system, no surprises.

You'll know exactly what's happening at every stage. No jargon, no gotchas, no charging you for parts you don't need.

  1. 01Step 1

    Check the doorbell circuit

We test whether you already have a transformer (hardwired original chime) or need to fit one. Both are quick jobs, we just need to know before we start.

  2. 02Step 2

    Fit transformer (if needed)

A doorbell transformer (usually 8–24V AC) fitted next to your consumer unit, spurred correctly, safe and to spec.

  3. 03Step 3

    Cable & mount doorbell

Low-voltage cable run neatly from transformer / chime location to the door, doorbell mounted with correct fixings for the frame material.

  4. 04Step 4

    Connect indoor chime

Your existing wired chime kept working (Ring 'Pro' models play nicely with mechanical chimes) or a new Ring Chime added if wired chime isn't wanted.

  5. 05Step 5

    App setup & handover

Doorbell paired with your Ring / Nest / Eufy app, motion zones tuned to your driveway, notifications configured. Walk-through of playback and how to answer from your phone. 2-year install warranty.

The benefits

What a proper install actually gets you.

Never charge a battery

Hardwired = permanent power. Set-and-forget for the life of the doorbell.

Instant motion detection

Hardwired doorbells run their motion sensor at full power | events are picked up faster than on battery.

Indoor chime still works

Existing wired ding-dong chime kept working alongside the smart doorbell | belt and braces.

Neat install

Cables hidden, correct fixings for the frame material, doorbell mounted level and flush.

Motion zones set up right

Tuned to trigger for people on your path | not passing cars, next-door's cat, or the postman two doors down.

2-year install warranty

Wiring, transformer, mounting and cable are all covered for two years.

Which doorbell, Ring, Nest, Eufy, Reolink?

Ring: the market leader, best-in-class app and Alexa integration. Ring Wired, Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Pro 2 are all straightforward hardwire jobs. Cloud subscription optional but recommended for playback.

Google Nest Doorbell (wired): excellent video quality, tight Google Home integration, generous free event history. Good pick if you already use Google Assistant / Chromecast.

Eufy Video Doorbell: local storage on the base unit, no mandatory subscription, HomeKit-compatible models available. Popular with privacy-conscious buyers.

Reolink: best value, PoE-powered options that run over Ethernet cable, integrates with the same Reolink NVR as our CCTV systems. Great where you're already having CCTV installed.

We install all four and can advise honestly on which best fits your Wi-Fi, existing smart-home setup and appetite for subscriptions.

Transformers and existing wired chimes

Most UK homes with a traditional wired ding-dong chime already have a doorbell transformer wired next to the consumer unit, usually 8V. Ring Pro models are designed to run off this exact setup and keep your mechanical chime working.

If your existing chime is wireless (a battery unit tuned to a battery bell push), there's no transformer and we'll fit one. It's a 1-hour add-on and it's the only way to get a fully hardwired install.

Where the incoming voltage is wrong for the specific doorbell model we're fitting, we fit a matching transformer, not a step-down that will burn out inside a year.

Motion zones, alerts and false triggers

Getting motion zones right is the difference between a doorbell you check every event and one you mute. On installation we tune the zones so the doorbell alerts only for people on your path or drive, not passing cars, cats, or the neighbours across the street.

Pre-roll (on models that support it) is enabled by default, you get a few seconds of context before the trigger, so you can see how someone approached.

Wi-Fi at the front door

A hardwired doorbell is only as good as the Wi-Fi that reaches it. In brick-fronted houses or where the router is at the back of the house, signal at the front door can be marginal. Where we spot that on install we'll recommend a small Wi-Fi upgrade (a hallway access point) or, for Reolink installs, hardwire the doorbell on PoE so Wi-Fi isn't a factor.

Answers

The questions we get asked every week.

Can't see yours? Call Larry on 07733 555269, he'll answer honestly, even if the answer isn't a sale.

How much does it cost to install a video doorbell?

+

Depends on whether you already have a doorbell transformer, the doorbell model, and where the chime lives. Most jobs are a fixed-price 1–2 hour visit, call 07733 555269 for a straight quote.

Can you install a Ring doorbell I've already bought?

+

Yes, we install any make and model of hardwired video doorbell. Just have it out of the box when we arrive with your Ring/Google/Eufy account password ready.

Do you supply the doorbell too?

+

Yes, we can supply Ring, Nest, Eufy or Reolink doorbells at the same visit if you'd rather not source your own.

Will my old ding-dong chime still work?

+

Yes, Ring Pro, Nest Wired and most other hardwired models are designed to keep the existing mechanical chime working alongside the phone alerts.

How long does the installation take?

+

1–2 hours for a standard install with an existing transformer. Add ~1 hour if we need to fit a new transformer next to your consumer unit.

Do I need Wi-Fi at the front door?

+

For Ring, Nest and Eufy, yes, and it needs to be reasonably strong (roughly the same signal you'd want on a phone at the door). If it's not, we can add an access point. Reolink PoE models sidestep the whole issue by using cable.

Can it work without a monthly subscription?

+

Live view and instant alerts work on any doorbell without a sub. Cloud playback of past events on Ring and Nest generally does require a small monthly sub; Eufy and Reolink store to local devices so no subscription is needed.

Can you set up motion zones so it doesn't ring every time a car goes past?

+

Yes, motion zones and sensitivity are tuned on install so you get useful alerts, not spam. We show you how to fine-tune them later too.

What's the warranty?

+

Two years on the install, wiring, transformer, cable and mounting. The doorbell itself carries the manufacturer's warranty (usually 1 year on Ring).
