The service

What it is, who it's for, and when you need it.

What it is

Supply, fit, re-align and repair of satellite dishes for Sky (Sky Q and legacy Sky+ HD), Sky Stream fibre backup, Freesat, and foreign-language services (Astra 19.2°E, Hotbird 13°E). Includes new dish installs, LNB replacement, cable runs, wall-plates and multi-room distribution.

Who it's for

Homeowners moving in, existing Sky customers with dropouts, Freesat viewers avoiding a subscription, expat households, holiday-lets, pubs and small commercial premises across the Home Counties.

When you need it

Signal loss in heavy rain that never comes back, "no satellite signal is being received" on Sky, a dish pointing at nothing after a storm, a house move where the previous owner took the box, or a Freesat upgrade to escape a monthly bill.

Why professional install matters

Sky's own installers are subcontractors on a time-per-job clock, corners get cut. Independent installers who own the job (like us) fit better brackets, use higher-grade cable and align to a proper signal meter, not a stopwatch. And when it goes wrong, you phone the person who did it, not a call queue.
Left too long

A small fault today is a bigger bill tomorrow.

A satellite install lives or dies on two things: the bracket, and the alignment. A cheap J-arm bolted through a soft render, or a dish that "looked about right", will drift with every storm until you're watching a loading spinner in the middle of the news.

What ignoring it can cost you

  • Rain-fade that gets worse every year as the LNB corrodes internally
  • Complete signal loss when the bracket finally lets go, sometimes taking guttering with it
  • Sky Q mini-boxes losing sync in one room after another as cable connections corrode
  • Compromised waterproofing where the cable enters the wall, hidden damp for months
  • Paying Sky's £65+ engineer call-out fee every time, when the same fault keeps coming back

Common DIY mistakes we get called back to fix

  • Reusing old 40-year-old brown cable on a Sky Q install, the LNB voltages don't get through cleanly
  • Fitting a Sky Q dish with a single-output LNB, no chance of adding a Freesat box later
  • Mounting on a chimney that's due repointing, the whole install has to come off in six months
  • DIY alignment 'by eye', a 1° error means solid picture in summer, dropouts every autumn
  • Skipping a signal meter test on install, you don't find out until the first cloudy weekend
Our process

A clear five-step system, no surprises.

You'll know exactly what's happening at every stage. No jargon, no gotchas, no charging you for parts you don't need.

  1. 01Step 1

    Line-of-sight check

We confirm a clear view to Astra 28.2°E (Sky/Freesat) from your chosen wall | no trees, no neighbours' extensions, no future planning issues.

  2. 02Step 2

    Diagnosis or spec

For faults: LNB, cable and box tested with a satellite meter. For new installs: correct dish size for your postcode, mount type and cable run agreed with you.

  3. 03Step 3

    Install

Zone-2 or zone-1 dish on a heavy-duty non-penetrating or wall bracket, quad or hybrid LNB, WF100 satellite cable run tidily to your box.

  4. 04Step 4

    Signal peak & test

Aligned with a proper spectrum meter | not by eye. We peak both azimuth and elevation, then test signal quality on every muxplex.

  5. 05Step 5

    Box set-up & warranty

Sky, Sky Q, Sky Stream or Freesat box connected, tuned and running. You get 2 years' parts-and-labour warranty on the install.

The benefits

What a proper install actually gets you.

Sky-quality install without Sky wait times

Same-day slot instead of a two-week window. Fixed price agreed before we lift a spanner.

Future-proof cabling

Quad or hybrid LNB and two cables run as standard | ready for a second box, Freesat backup or a Sky Q mini in another room.

Rain-fade eliminated

Correct dish size for your postcode's rain-margin | bigger where it needs to be, not a token 45cm dish where 60 is right.

One person to call

You speak to Larry when you book, Larry fits it, and Larry answers if anything drifts. No call-centre.

Freesat = no subscription

Live TV, HD channels and BBC iPlayer without a monthly bill | a smart pick for holiday lets and second homes.

2-year warranty

Alignment, LNB, cable, connectors and wall-plate | all covered for two years, parts and labour.

Sky Q, Sky Stream and Freesat, which is right?

Sky Q still needs a dish. If you already have one, we can align and cable it for a new Sky Q box. If not, we fit a Sky Q-compatible wideband LNB with two cables, that's the current Sky standard.

Sky Stream / Sky Glass uses fibre broadband, not a dish. But we're often called when Sky Stream buffers in bad weather, a Freesat dish makes an excellent free backup for the live channels.

Freesat is the subscription-free option, 170+ channels including HD, BBC iPlayer and ITVX built in. Ideal for households cutting the Sky bill or fitting a holiday let.

Foreign satellite: Astra 19.2°E (German, French, Dutch), Hotbird 13°E (Italian, Polish, Middle East). We can fit a second dish or a monobloc LNB where line-of-sight allows.

Dish sizes and brackets

Standard UK zone-1 dish is 45cm, fine for most of Herts, Beds and Essex on a good day. In marginal postcodes or where you want a bigger rain-margin (holiday lets, businesses) we recommend a zone-2 60cm dish for near-total weather immunity.

Brackets are matched to the wall, heavy-duty T&K bracket on brick, non-penetrating chimney lashing kit where drilling isn't wanted, or a ground pole for gardens where the roof line is blocked. Stainless fixings throughout.

Common satellite repairs

"No satellite signal is being received": usually a dead LNB after 8–10 years, or a bracket knocked out of alignment. Both fixable on the first visit.

Rain-fade / pixelation in showers: dish is a hair off peak alignment; a signal-meter re-align restores full rain margin.

Sky Q mini-box drops out: usually a corroded F-connector on the outdoor cable end. Re-terminate and re-seal.

Old Sky+ dish, want Freesat: normally a straight LNB swap; no need to replace the whole dish.

Multi-room, MDU and commercial

For multi-room Sky Q we make sure the two-cable feed is properly star-wired to the main box, and Sky Q mesh coverage is strong enough for the minis. For pubs, holiday-lets and blocks of flats we fit a multi-switch fed by a quad or octo LNB, giving every unit its own independent feed.

Answers

The questions we get asked every week.

Can't see yours? Call Larry on 07733 555269, he'll answer honestly, even if the answer isn't a sale.

Can you install Sky?

+

Yes, we install and align dishes for new Sky Q customers, or repair dishes for existing Sky/Sky+ boxes. As independent installers we're not Sky's engineers, but the physical install (dish, LNB, cable) is what makes or breaks a Sky signal, and we do it to a higher standard.

How much does a satellite dish installation cost?

+

Depends on dish size, bracket type, cable run length and access. We give a fixed honest price on the free call-out, call 07733 555269 for a quote against your specific job.

Can you get me off my Sky subscription?

+

Yes, Freesat gives you 170+ channels including HD and iPlayer with no monthly fee. If you already have a dish we can often re-use it; just swap the LNB and add a Freesat box.

How long is the warranty?

+

Two years on parts and labour, alignment, LNB, cable, connectors and bracket. If anything fails inside 24 months we come back at no cost.

Can you install foreign satellite (Polish, Italian, German)?

+

Yes, Astra 19.2°E, Hotbird 13°E and other European satellites, subject to line-of-sight from your property. We'll check the sight-line on the free survey.

Can you fix a dish that's been up for years?

+

Yes, most 'no signal' faults on old installs are a dead LNB, a corroded connector or a knocked alignment, all of which we fix without replacing the whole dish.

Do you offer same-day service?

+

Yes, book before mid-afternoon and we aim to be with you the same day. LNBs, cable and connectors are on the van as standard.

Where can the dish go?

+

Anywhere with a clear line-of-sight to the satellite, usually a gable end, chimney, side wall or garden pole. Conservation areas and listed buildings have restrictions we'll talk through on site.

Will it work in heavy rain?

+

Correctly-aligned dishes hold signal through normal British rain. Only exceptional tropical downpours cause brief 'rain fade', and a bigger dish (zone-2 60cm) almost eliminates even that.
